Domaine Mittnacht


Founded in 1958, Domaine Mittnacht is a family-run estate led by the charming couple of Christophe and Yuka Mittnacht.  They farm some of the finest vineyards around the town of Hunawihr.  Christophe was an early pioneer of the biodynamic movement, believing that biologically complex, complete soils are essential for producing elegant and terroir driven wines.  The domaine was officially certified biodynamic in 1999 – one of the very first in all of Alsace.  The old vines holdings include the Grand Cru Rosacker (where the fabled Clos-St.-Hune is located), as well as excellent sites between Ribeauville and Riquewihr. Christophe believes in minimal intervention and letting the soil sing using neutral wood and tank to deliver spot-on, expressive and beautifully delicate wines.  Christophe harvests balanced fruit and avoids the excesses of alcohol and residual sugar that mask the freshness and florality that makes Alsace so special.

Marc has given new impetus to the company since 1995. The vines have been cultivated with respect for the environment for several years. No synthetic product in the vineyard, great respect for the natural cycle of the vine and its terroir, fully manual harvests and sorting, a minimum of cellar intervention and no use of oenological products (apart from a minimum sulfur) in order to best respect the quality of the grapes. This philosophy naturally pushes the estate to engage the estate, since 1999, in organic and biodynamic cultivation, that which best respects the environment, the health of consumers and above all the personality and identity of wines from the great Appellations of Origin. Controlled. This approach is certified by Ecocert and Demeter.

Crémant d’Alsace is based on precise regulations dating back to 1976, inspired by the Champagne method and entitled “Traditional Method”. Made from a precise blend, our grapes are harvested early. After a first fermentation in tank, the wine is subjected to filtration and addition of the liqueur de tirage. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle, and the aging on slats is carried out for at least 18 months. Disgorgement and addition of the expedition liquor complete this method of vinification. Our Crémant Brut presents fruity aromas (peach, apple, pear…) on a festival of light and very elegant bubbles. On the palate, this Crémant, with very little dosage of expedition liqueur, is dry, lively, with flavors of orchard fruit. Everything is built around ripe acidity.
