he winery was founded in 2004, just 2 years after the Weinviertel (the district to the north and northeast of Vienna) was named the first DAC in Austria’s fledgling appellation system. Christian keeps his production low (around 600 cases in all) and does not show much interest in increasing despite healthy demand locally and abroad. Not one bent on world domination, he derives satisfaction instead from seeing his wines in carefully chosen fine restaurants and wine merchants.
There is a lot of talk about “organic” and “sustainability” today and for Christian Mrozowski, the terms were really the guiding principle: he pursued organic certification from the very beginning. All of his wines are certified vegan and biodynamic, in keeping with his deep respect and appreciation for the land. He does all the work on his own, by hand, and uses only indigenous yeast.
